How did you first hear about CREW Portland?
I met CREW Portland by attending an annual Forecast Breakfast with a client. I found the high-quality content and positive energy engaging. The many friendly faces, both familiar and unfamiliar, encouraged me to join.
What motivated you to join CREW Portland?
Networking, Business Development, Career Advancement, Meet Inspiring People, Volunteer, Be a voice for women in Commercial Real Estate. I wanted to be a part of an association committed to the support and development of excellence in its members.
How did you get here?
After moving to Portland, I began my early real estate career in multi-family as an onsite property manager of a 200+ unit community for the national REIT. In addition to the daily tasks of managing a team of service providers and maintaining good relationships with the residents, I gained familiarity with acquisition, disposition, financing and type conversion of assets. These experiences, along with my weekly presence in eviction hearings, led to the desire to become more knowledgeable and proficient in the legal nature of these undertakings. I attended Lewis and Clark Law School in the evenings while working full time. Graduating and passing the bar exam during the peak of unemployment in the real estate industry, opened the door to my next opportunity. I defended clients against fraudulent insurance claims. I litigated in state and federal courts, and investigated claims in multiple jurisdictions. During this time, I also pursued my own real estate transactions. As the market rebounded, I studied the real estate industry as a whole to determine where I believed my talents and skills would serve clients and provide the highest level of personal satisfaction. One day after signing closing documents on a sale of mine, I asked if I could assist the escrow officer who closed most of my transactions. Nearly a decade later, I believe it was the single best question I ever asked. I think she thought I was joking at the time, but I really wanted to learn how she pulled it all together. There is something about gathering all the expectations of multiple parties and getting across a finish line that energizes me. I have my fingers on the pulse of the industry and have the chance to be of service to the most amazing people. Every day there is a new discovery or question to be considered.

What is one goal you would like to achieve through CREW?
Last year, I was asked to re-start CREW Cruisers. A running/walking/ speed networking group. I want to expand the membership count this year and collect at least four stories of working relationships that began or were fostered as a result of the members' participation in Cruisers events.
