Mind, Body, Spirit Wellness Series | Part 2: Body – Self Defense

Part 2 of CREW Portland’s Mind, Body and Spirit series will focus on further developing the strength and self-confidence of our members through a self-defense workshop. During this 1.5 hour event, skilled facilitators from EMERJ-SafeNow (www.emerjsafenow.org) will share strategies to enhance personal safety and awareness, highlighting the importance of safety planning, self-care, and internal verbal and physical assertiveness. Expect to have fun, exude strength and learn physical/verbal self-defense skills to build further confidence. This will be an active workshop – please wear comfortable clothing.

Lead Instructor: Carolyne Haycraft, Co-Founder and Executive Director, EMERJ-SafeNow: Carolyne has over 20 years of experience in the field of violence prevention as a facilitator, instructor and activist. As a member of the Family Services Division of the Portland Police Bureau, she served as a WomenStrength self-defense instructor and GirlStrength Director. She also co-facilitated  Safety Zone classes for adults with developmental disabilities. She is a licensed teacher, holds two blacks belts, one in Taekwon-do and the other in Karate and serves on the OR Sexual Assault Task Force.
